Abstract

Ma'pakande Tomatua is a ritual carried out by the oldest belief system in Tana Toraja called Aluk To Dolo. The intent and purpose of this ritual is to remember all the spirits that have preceded their families. In the ma'pakade To Matua ritual, several types of animals such as buffalo, pigs and chickens are sacrificed. This sacrifice is cut and then the meat is arranged based on the level in the ma'pakande tomatoua ritual. Ma'pakadetotua is usually held to welcome a ceremony that will be held in the future, such as in a house ceremony or Tongkonan, or other ceremonies that are considered big ceremonies. The Ma'pakande Tomatua carried out by Catholics in Simburan Mappak is slightly different from that carried out by Aluk To Dolo because the Ma'pakade To Matua in the Catholic Church has been inculturated. Ma'pakakande To Matua for Catholics in Simbuang Mappak is a ceremony to pray for the ancestors with the hope that if their ancestors are still in purgatory, then pray for them to be released and enter the kingdom of heaven and in the future they will become true intercessors for their descendants.
